COMMON HOMEPAGE WEB DESIGN MISTAKES

The following mistakes are commonly made on many websites on the Internet.
Large Banner Ads
Advertisers usually demand on displaying their large banner ads on the best real estate on the home page, which is at the top of the page.
However, there are negatives in placing a large banner on the home page:
  • This increases the web page download time, which will frustrate your users. Moreover, search engines such as Google consider page speed to be a critical element in search engine optimisation.
  • It will push down the start of the page. Your users will commence viewing your content further on.
  • An advertisement will compete with other on site promotions. A banner advertisement is promotion another website, service or product thus diminishing what your website is offering.
Too Much Content
Some Web designers try to squeeze in as much content as they can fit into a home page as possible. It’s suggested that you don't try to promote every single item your Web site has to offer on your home page.
It is much more effective to promote a few hero products.
Below are four reasons why you shouldn't squeeze in too much content onto your home page:
  1. Longer download time: most web users will wait no more than 8 seconds before they give up on a website. The more content you add to your home page, the longer it is going to take to download;
  2. Decreases readability: people are put off by large amounts of text. Large amounts of text and graphics also require the user's mind to work hard to filter out the useful content from the junk. People are much more likely to read two paragraphs than ten.
  3. Too many options: don't make your visitors overwork by putting too many options on a page. Web surfing should be enjoyable and easy.
  4. Requires too much scrolling: generally, web users typically don't like to scroll too much. Since most Web users select the first reasonable option, or link, the content towards the bottom of a long webpage is hardly ever going to be viewed.
Go Away Links
The main objective of the home page is to encourage the user or to explore the site further. So links that lead visitors to other external Web sites only encourages them to go away! You have worked so hard to get them to your Website, why do you want to push them away?
Minimize the following go away links on your home page:
  • Advertising banners, buttons, and text links;
  • Affiliate program banners, buttons, and text links (unless your income depends on them!);
  • Cross-promotion banners, buttons, and text links;
  • Search forms for other sites;
  • Links to content on other sites;

SIGNS YOUR WEB DESIGN IS OUTDATED

If you haven’t tried this yet, do it now: on your smart phone or tablet navigate to your website. So now that you are on your website, what do you see? Small eligible text? What is happening with the graphics doing? Is navigation easy? If you are shocked by what you see, then we urge you to consider a website redesign. Getting a new web design isn’t just a cosmetic luxury; it’s a business necessity.
Here are 5 signs you need a website redesign:
1. Your Website Isn’t Mobile Friendly. As was mentioned very bluntly above, if you cannot view your own business website on a mobile device, neither can your potential clients. If that’s the case, you risk the chance of them going elsewhere. For this reason alone, you may need a website redesign.
2. Your Website is Not Search Engine Friendly. Go to Google, Bing, Yahoo or any other search engine and search for one of the products or services your business provides, or even your company name. Does your website show up on the first page of search engine results? If not, your website is in need of some serious search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is a very important reason for a website makeover. Most business websites gather traffic from organic search, but customers only look at the first few entries on the first page of results—they seldom scroll down and almost never click through beyond the first page of the search results.
3. Your Website Hasn’t Kept Up To Date with Your Business. Another reason you might need a website overhaul is that your website hasn’t kept up with changes in your business. Outdated information can confuse and irritate your clients and cause problems for your staff at the very least.
4. Your Website Design Looks Dated & Old. Everyone needs a wardrobe update now and then and your website is certainly no exception. It isn’t 2007 anymore, and if your customers have been seeing the same old website for the last several years, it can get very boring. Not only that, but it tells current customers and potential clients that other things besides your design might not be current (refer back to #3).
5. Your Website Doesn’t Bring Any Value to the Customer. A potential visitor may visit your website once, but if they do not find anything helpful, useful or valuable to them, you risk the chance of them never returning.

Plumber Adelaide Tips

Bathroom Plumbing
  1. Having guests visiting for the holidays leads to increases in toilet use, so be sure to tell your guests not to put sanitary products, napkins, or baby wipes in the toilet. Not everyone knows that these items belong in the trash and not in the toilet!
  2. Ask your guests to use all the toilets in the house to reduce the load on a single toilet and decrease the chance of it getting backed up.
  3. Make sure there are no items on top of the toilet tank lid and remove any items you may have hanging near or over the toilet bowl. Guests are not used to the way things are positioned in your home and they may accidentally knock an object into the toilet!
  4. In case of a blockage in your toilet, do not keep flushing: use a plunger to try and dislodge the blockage.
  5. If your toilet keeps running on, check the position of the flapper inside the tank. It has to fit over the hole in the base of the tank, if it’s not fitting properly, use the shut off valve, which is normally located under the tank.
  6. Place hair traps in all showers and tub drains, as you will have extra guests taking showers and that will add to the amount of hair going down the drain.
Kitchen Plumbing
  1. A lot of cooking will be happening in your kitchen during the holidays. Make sure that whoever is helping you in the kitchen knows what should go in the trash, what can go in the bio container and what ought to go in the garbage disposal (if you have one).
  2. Avoid putting pasta, rice, coffee grounds, bones, potato skins, egg shells, lettuce or any large amounts of food down the garbage disposal.  Remember to run cold water when using it.
  3. Be sure to never pour that turkey grease or ham fat down the drain and if you don’t have a garbage disposal make sure you have a strainer in your sinks.
  4. If your kitchen sink (or any sinks!) gets blocked use this vinegar and baking soda solution to help unclogged your drain.
  5. For dishwashers, make sure you’re removing the food scraps from the dishes and cutlery and rinsing them in the sink so that the debris doesn’t block the dishwasher water line

Plumber Adelaide Emergency Tips

Home owners never give thought to an emergency plumbing service until one is used. In an emergency, every minute surely does counts, so you should always ask these questions before hiring a plumber to avoid surprise fees and to protect yourself and your home.
Licensing
Ask the plumber if he or she is a licensed plumber in your city or suburb. Not all cities and states require a licensed plumbers, so if they do not have one, it may be that licenses are not available in that city. All licensed plumbers have to pass a written and  oral exam, so you will know that they are knowledgeable about their  plumbing trade.
Do not confuse a business license with a plumbing license. A business license means the plumber is  able to operate a business in your state. It does not mean they are skilled in plumbing or have taken a plumbing examination.
Insurance
A plumber should carry both worker’s compensation and  public liability insurance. Worker’s compensation covers the plumber and employees in case of an injury. Without this insurance, the home owner is totally responsible for medical bills and other associated costs.
Liability insurance pays for repairs and damages as a result of the plumber’s wrong full actions. If the plumber causes damage to your home while fixing the problem, this insurance policy will pay for the plumbing damages that he produced. If the plumber does not carry liability insurance, the homeowner is responsible for any plumbing damages that happen.
Plumbers without insurance are often cheaper because they do not have to payhigh premiums. However, the savings are minimal compared to the cost of a bad injury or accident.
Response Time
Ask the emergency plumbing service how quickly they can fix the problem. Emergency plumbers are on call 24 hours a day,  7 days a week but if they have to travel a long distance to get to your home, response time will definitely be delayed. If you have a leak, extra response time can lead to thousands of dollars of damage to your home or office happening. If they are several hours away, ask if they can refer an emergency plumber closer to your home.

Plumbing Advice for your home - Plumber Adelaide

Plumber Adelaide, Plumber Adelaide

Whether it's your clogged drain, a burst pipe or hot water system issues, no plumbing issue is easy to fix. Often, a homeowner can actually cause more issues by trying to fix a leak or unclog a blogged drain. We spoke with a  great plumber to find out what plumbers really want us to know and learn.

Be careful with your oil & grease - Adelaide Plumbers
Some of the most common plumbing problems we see have to do with homeowners putting things down their kitchen sink. Cooking oil and grease must never be flushed down the drain, because they can congeal and cause blockages once they cool. A better solution is to pour used cooking oil or grease from fried foods into an empty tin, and then put it out with the kitchen rubbish on collection day.

Food scraps cause havoc - Adelaide Plumbers
Think your rubbish disposal is tough enough to take on any food scraps you throw in? Homeowners should also avoid putting food into the rubbish disposal. Food such as potato skins, for example, cannot be properly broken down. If you have food scraps to dispose of, try put them into the garbage bin as much as possible.

Don't ignore issues - Adelaide Plumbers
One of the biggest mistake people make is ignoring their plumbing fixtures. A small problem such as a slow dripping faucet, when ignored, will ultimately result in damage to the faucet itself, requiring an early faucet replacement instead of a relatively inexpensive seal repair.

Hot water systems need attention - Adelaide Plumbers

Who pays attention to hot water systems? "These appliances are typically tucked away somewhere so homeowners easily forget to perform much-needed regular maintenance. To keep your hot water system operating right, do not forget to flush the tank at least once a year. Also do not forget to check the anode once a year for  the rust and oxidation. Hot water units cost hundreds of dollars to replace, and taking these simple steps can definatley help lengthen the life of your system.

Draining & Plumbing Services Adelaide

When it comes to your plumbing situtation, you may be tempted to go with someone based purely on price. Sure you may have a small budget, everyone does, but this is not always the best way to go. You know the old saying, you get what you pay for?  This is true when it comes to a quality Plumber Adelaide. Let’s start with workmanship. Hiring some guy may not be the correct idea, especially if it’s a big job, like clearing out a drain. He may be able to get a pipe snake down there and get it cleared, temporarily, but what if you have roots in your Blocked drain pipes? They probably will not have the tools or equipment to inspect the pipes properly, such as a remote camera that travels down the drain pipes, identifying problems along the root. Will they have the tools to completely clear the pipes and correct the underlying problem for good? Probably not. In fact, many of these low budget plumbers will more than likely refer you to a professional like Local Plumber Adelaide.

A good reason to choose a professional company is that you will get faster, better & cheaper service. A professional company is going to have the tools and equipment to get the job done right the first time, and within a short amount of time. If there are problems that take longer, they are going to tell you before they start, so you know there is going to be a big delay.

It is important that you have a person on hand to help you out in an emergency. Problems don’t always happen during the day. Usually they happen at 2 or three in the morning, on a weekend, even on a holiday. Sure a regular plumber may be able to help you in an emergency in most cases, but now you are at their mercy, they can charge you just about anything. A professional company is going to be on call, keeping the same emergency hours, but a good company isn’t going to just take your money to come out in an emergency. If you have used them before, in many cases you may even get a discount. In addition, a professional company may even offer a maintenance program, where they come out and maintain your plumbing, preventing problems from happening in the first place.
